Lord Vishnu agreed to help the Devas. He disguised as a Brahmin Dwarf and visited King Mahabali on Earth. He then requested King Mahabali to provide him with the land that he walked in three steps, which was agreed to. Then, Lord Vishnu grew in size until his first two steps covered the entire world and if he took the third step, it would destroy everything. To stop him from taking the third step, King Mahabali offered his head to be the next. On seeing how humble and generous Mahabali was, Lord Vishnu granted him permission to return to his kingdom and visit his people from the one world, once a year. This day is now celebrated as the Onam Festival.
